BJ's Battle Bags are EXTRA LARGE customized gift bags! Clinical Social Workers at Levine Children's Hospital give the patient's family the SFWF application for a BJ's Battle Bag, and after we get the completed form, our Youth Division goes to work!
Each BJ's Battle Bag contains some SFWF swag, a Jesus Calling devotional book, and a blanket. But that's where the similarities between each bag ends! The patient's completed application form is considered when shopping for their own unique gifts.
We often receive feedback from the social workers, or families themselves, saying that the gift arrived at the perfect time, often creating a smile and some joy when there was none.
For a BJ's Battle Bag application, please reach out to your social worker.
The SFWF Comfort Kits are distributed by nurses and other staff at the Levine Pediatric Oncology/BMT clinic. The Sleep and Nausea Comfort Kits contain essential oils (lavender and peppermint), cotton sticks, selenite stones, rose quartz, ear plugs and sleep masks, "Gin Gin" candies, and a guide on calming breathing techniques.
We have had rave reviews from the Supportive Medicine physician and other clinic staff on how beneficial these zipper pouch Comfort Kits are!
The Supportive Medicine program at Levine Children's Hospital offers natural and complementary therapies to support traditional treatments while helping children stay as healthy as possible.
Our essential oils are generously donated by Desrosiers International.
SFWF hosts annual Gold Games at local schools to highlight childhood cancer and the lack of federal funding for childhood cancer research.. While there are plenty of "Pink" games, Gold is the ribbon color for Childhood Cancer, and often tends to be overlooked. This is also a great way to engage students and provides an opportunity for education.
The Snowflake Project is a way to engage local middle school students in showing compassion and kindness to kids in the hospital. Each year, students create paper snowflakes and cards that are packaged and given to kids at local hospitals.
SFWF hosts blood drives with One Blood in an effort to spotlight the need for blood products at our local hospitals. Cancer patients are the #1 recipients of blood products.
Every year teachers and coaches nominate a student athlete who embodies the traits of a warrior. These traits are "Fights Through Adversity", "Team Before Self", and "Faith in Action". The student athlete who is selected as the BJ Correll Warrior Award recipient is recognized at the annual sports banquet as well as at the end of year ceremonies.
SFWF teams up with Harlan's Heroes each year to provide 15-20 pediatric cancer families a thanksgiving meal. Families who are identified by the social workers as experiencing financial hardships are given a gift card and groceries to make a traditional thanksgiving meal for 4-6 people. Both Michelle and Jacki (Harlan's Heroes) know what it's like to spend holidays in-patient, so this offering of love during the holidays comes directly from their hearts.
SFWF and Harlan's Heroes team up to provide a wonderful Christmas for pediatric cancer families who are experiencing financial hardships, complete with food, crafts, gifts, and a visit from Santa!
SFWF joins in the celebration and support for the amazing nursing staff at Levine Children's Hospital by providing special meals and treats throughout the year.
